Independent project
Design process
2 design sprints over 2 weeks tackling research, design and development simultaneously.
Week I
How might we make a better massage device?
HMW improve upon existing alternatives?
User stories brainstormed all the use cases for massage devices
Compared alternatives for each use case in terms of ease of use, affordability and effectiveness.
Value proposition of phone as massage device: free, portable – HMW make it more efficient?
HMW use phones' vibrations for massages?
Taptic engine apps using haptic patterns
Where vibrations are felt the most
Made a simple app to play with vibration patterns
Holding patterns to maximise vibrations
HMW magnify vibrations?
Approach 1 amplifying phone's vibrations using household objects
Approach 2 a partner phone case that amplifies vibrations mechanically
Week II
Realisation
Phone case
In the process of 3D printing this model.
Initial prototypes in metal and design.
App
Categorising massage types based on use cases
Vibrations + holding patterns based on massage techniques for each use case
Ongoing
