Who lends to whom? Who returns? Who doesn't?
Participant observation + Interviews / 8 groups of friends
Key Design Problems
1. Forgetfulness; sufficient ability as well as motivation to repay but no trigger
2. Selfishness; sufficient ability to repay (or not) but low motivation
3. Inadequate means; sufficient motivation to repay (or not) but no ability
4. Awkwardness; inadequate triggers due to the confrontational nature of the subject
Initial Concepts
Idea 1: Using social pressure
Integrating chat and event planning features with payments to ensure that everyone’s debts are visible to everyone in the group
Idea 2: Automatic repayment schedules
A calendar-based payments app to generate repayment schedules automatically after every transaction
Idea 3: Preventing debts
Pooling together a group wallet at the start of every month or before an event
Idea 4: Eliminating the need for triggers
Fixed weekly reminders to repay all pending debts on one day
Synthesis
Strongest hooks: planning group events + recurring bills
